Recreation Internship

Department: 31-Recreation Administration
Location: Livermore, CA

LARPD is seeking a summer intern to support the management of summer camps in the recreation department including the supervision and oversight of contractors which is an integral function at LARPD. Work hours will be Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, 40 hours per week during the ten weeks of employment. The pay rate will be $20 per hour.

Key duties

  • Support the recreation department in their summer scheduling:
  • Communicate effectively with contract instructor/organizer via weekly emails with rosters, registration numbers, camp locations, LARPD expectations.
  • Inform parents and communicate effectively to parents’ weekly emails with specific camp information (dates/times/location.)
  • Print Attendance sheets weekly for each camp.
  • Work with facilities to be sure rooms are set up correctly based on what camp is taking place.
  • Meet instructors before camp to show room location, ensure set up is correct, show instructor location for snack time, go over rules of the campus, etc.
  • Meet/greet parents/participants, instruct on which room their camp is in, etc.
  • Assist with any issues that may arise in the classroom whether it be equipment issue or behavioral issue with participant.
  • Ensure all participants are picked up at the appropriate time.
  • Provides guidance, support, and assistance to staff throughout the week, which includes managing camper behavior issues, stress, and personal care needs
  • Process critical incidents with supervisory staff.
  • Participate in the intern group project.
  • Provide support and be a role model to all participants.
  • Preference will be given to those pursuing a degree in a related field.

Timing

May – August 7th.

Work hours will be Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, 40 hours per week during the ten weeks of employment. The pay rate will be $20 per hour. All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.
